FAIRYTALE OF NEW WORK / ANNUAL SHOWREEL

EXPEDIA GROUP

A years worth of business data packed into an 8 minute music video

The week before Christmas, the annual newsletter highlighting all major projects and data is sent out to the wider business. These contain such large amounts of information that it can be a challenge to digest and act on projects relevant to the reader.

I took all the data and rewrote it into the format of the lyrics of the popular Christmas song β€œFairytale of New York” by The Pogues.

In order to not commit industrial espionage the confidential information from the song is edited out here which makes this audio relatively short, as the original 9 minute “epic” contained highlighted data on every major UX project the product department had produced throughout the year: from badging, branded reviews to dynamic pricing and cost scheduling amongst other things. The video is also absent to aid colleagues in retaining a professional, public appearance.

OPPORTUNITY

Instead of reading a newsletter, colleagues can enjoy an ear worm of all the projects from the team.

RESULTS

Once the song was recorded and mixed, each team was dressed in cassocks and green screened into distinct festive environments where they mimed along to the audio. The annual showreel resulting from the choreography and lip syncing provided a strong visual aid for memorising business data along with an engaging seasonal bonding experience for everyone.

β€œHe is talented, but humble. Creative, but has the ability to take on feedback with grace. He is an expert in his field, and an absolute asset to any company that is lucky enough to have him. He effortlessly creates amazing things – doesn’t matter if he has a strict brief, an ambiguous wish list, or full creative power”
